About Us

Although we come from a variety of backgrounds and sometimes have diverse points of view, we share common commitments as a fellowship of Baptist Christians. These commitments shape who we are and help direct how we function as a church. We celebrate our Baptist heritage and are proud partners of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship

As believers in Christ and through the Holy Spirit, we are committed to joyfully share the gospel of Jesus Christ with all people through evangelism, outreach, and missions; to equip believers for ministries in our church, our community, and throughout the world; and to provide opportunities for worship, Bible study, discipleship, stewardship, service, and fellowship.

We at South Venice Baptist Church believe and affirm the Holy Bible as the inspired Word of God and the basis for our faith and practice.  The criterion by which the Bible is to be interpreted is Jesus Christ.

Christ is the recognized head of our church, not any person, group, or religious organization. While recognizing the value of associating and cooperating with other groups of Christians, we believe that every local church should be self-governing and independent from any denominational control.

Priesthood of the Believer - Every believer is a priest of God and may enter into His presence in prayer directly through our Great High Priest, Jesus Christ. No other mediator is needed between God and His people: we all have equal access to God.

Two Ordinances - The local church should practice two ordinances: (1) baptism of the believer by immersion in water and (2) the Lord’s Supper, or communion, commemorating His death for our sins.

We are now worshipping in person here at South Venice Baptist Church. We are following the CDC guidelines for masks and social distancing. For those who are still not comfortable gathering for worship we are broadcasting our Sunday morning service on Facebook live and our Wednesday evening Prayer Meeting is available by Zoom for those who wish to participate from home.

If you are on Facebook, make sure you go the church’s page and click on the ‘Like’ or ‘Follow’ button. Then you will receive notices any time there is a post on the page, or when we go live.
If you are not on Facebook, this is a good time to sign up. It’s easy, and free. (And if you’re not sure how to do that, do what I do and ask a younger person – like your kids or grandkids!) We have also created a Youtube channel and are uploading the service there as well.
The link to participate in our Prayer Meeting by Zoom is in our weekly Prayer Matters email. I know, we have all heard stories about the abuse of social media. But this is a time that it can be a blessing to you and to our church, and this method will allow us to be together, even when we are apart.
