What kind of Baptist Church is South Venice Baptist Church?
Our church, like all Baptist churches, is autonomous and independent. We have chosen to affiliate with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Florida and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship nationally. We support the historical Baptist distinctives, purposes and goals of these groups through mission giving, serving in leadership roles, attending assemblies, helping with CBF Global Mission mission sites, and taking advantage of training and learning events sponsored by Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. With our varied membership from different church backgrounds, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship's open and accepting style just fit who we are and sense God leading us to be.
What should I wear on Sunday morning?
Venice is a beach community and is pretty laid back when it comes to clothing. Most folks dress pretty casually, especially during the hot summer months. As a general rule, our folks come to church wearing comfortable cool clothing. As a matter of fact, Pastor Allan doesn't usually wear a coat or tie during the hottest part of the year. Come comfortable and just be yourself with us as we worship the one who takes us just like we are!
If I wanted to join South Venice Baptist Church would I have to be baptized again?
Well, that depends. As a Baptist church, we feel that believer's baptism by immersion is the most biblical method of baptism. The word baptize in the Bible actually means "to dip" or "to immerse". It appears that the baptisms described in the New Testament were by immersion and followed a commitment to trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. If you have publicly professed your faith in Jesus Christ through believer's baptism by immersion in a biblically based church, you will not need to be rebaptized. If you were baptized as a child or infant before you could make your own faith commitment to Christ as Savior and Lord, you would need to be baptized. If you've never publicly professed your faith in Christ through believer's baptism by immersion, you need to be baptized. We don't get hung up about where you were baptized, we just think it should be done through a biblically sound church. Remember, all of our members have been baptized, so to them and soon to you it will be an awesome way of taking the next step of obedience to Jesus Christ.
